Wild and windy

We seem to be stuck in a series of snow streamers off of Lake Huron, and the wind is still piling up the drifts. Over at Russet Hill, only the lower end of the drive was filled in and Doug made short work of that on his tractor. I went off on snow shoes to show the property to potential clients and the trees protected us from the majority of the wind. Last weekend’s trails have all disappeared except when we guessed correctly where they were, it was a bit easier going. Good workout.

Happy New Year

Twelve of us celebrated the New Year at Russet Hill House with a BIG GAME NIGHT. Dinner of fish, venison, pheasant and yummy side dishes. Three tables of our favourite card game, Marbles, much laughter, and tall stories that were mostly true, before a bit of bubbly at Midnight. The guys left us snugged in by the woodstove and ventured out to the Games Cabin for Darts and Billiards. They were pretty blurry the next morning at breakfast. The house was comfortable for 12, with 8 staying for the night. A new list of necessities but pretty pleased...

Snow mobile Trail Breaker

Doug bought himself a used snowmobile to break the trails both on our home property and across the road at Russet Hill. After a few false starts, he got it off the truck – stuck – unstuck – running. A lot of work with so much snow but will make moving about on skiis or snowshoes a lot easier. And today, he took a couple of horses out for a bit of a workout.
